A Pervasive Lack of Seriousness, Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, Co Wicklow 2010
as part of Unbuilding a series of shows, talks and events curated by Cliodhna Shaffrey, Rosie Lynch, and Eilis Lavelle.

Clears recent work references architectural structures with underlying themes including, a precariousness and place, place-ness and absence, however aesthetically the work moves towards abstraction. Through drawings, sketches and structural maquettes the work makes propositions, open up states of unknowing and feeling of uncertainty. The small models and precarious, about to fall over: made from art and craft materials and borne out of studio practice the reflect the aspiration and failure that creativity offer.

The drawings reference architectural structures but they are at times more ambiguous, opening out their meaning to philosophical enquiry. A further fractured structure appears ton the largest work, appearing simultaneously real and abstracted and a dismantled view, deconstructed. Overall the decisive yet ambiguous structures contrast with the delicate water-colour and graphite treatment. The delicacy of the work resonates with the precariousness that is symptomatic of our times.
